1. Have someone list ten random words or objects.

2. Set a timer for 30 seconds and try to memorize as many words as possible.

3. After the timer expires, cover the list and write down the words you remember.

Chances are, you remembered only a few words. Now, try the exercise again, but this time, create a story in your head using those same ten words. You’ll likely recall more words this time.

This exercise demonstrates that our minds respond well to stories. So, when planning your Giving Tuesday and year-end campaigns, use storytelling to convey your message. Stories engage donors and help them retain information.
