To be LGBTQ in Iran is to fear for your life. Few people know this better than International Railroad for Queer Refugees (IRQR) founder, Arsham Parsi. Parsi and three other Iranian refugees reflect on their traumatizing past, their new life abroad, and their hope for the future.

The International Railroad for Queer Refugees provides assistance and protection to LGBTQ individuals facing oppression in Middle Eastern countries and beyond. In 2019, homosexuality was illegal in 37 percent of the world’s countries. Furthermore, it is punishable by death in 13 countries. IRQR has helped more than 2,500 LGBTQ refugees navigate immigration systems and get to countries where they are safe and free to express their sexuality.
